Design Statistics

Design is in large part about knowing and understanding trends. How you design something is almost always determined by who will be looking at it. This section will present the statistical information we've collected over the years from the various sites we've worked on.

First Night Boston Millenium Statistics

First Night is Boston's famed New Years Eve festival of the arts (and one of my clients for over 10 years). First Night ranks in the trinity of annual "Big Boston Events" along with the Esplanade Fourth of July Celebration and the Boston Marathon. It draws upwards of two million people into the coldest of Boston weather. The festival features several hundred artists and performers at over 75 local venues.

The millenium events were the busiest I dealt with and the best monitored. Although the data is old (in Internet terms it's positively ancient actually) it's still interesting to review.

First Night Boston 2000: A three-day FirstNight celebration held December 31, 1999 - January 2, 2000.

First Night Boston 2001: Held December 31, 2000.

These stats represent an extremely dense, and thus easy to model, traffic pattern. First Night is primarily a family event so these stats better represent general computer users rather than the computer enthusiast. It's safe to assume that most visitors are from the Boston metro area.
