FreeData_NWS: Your Weather

This is an example of the FreeData_NWS ColdFusion custom tag. This tags allows ColdFusion developers to retrieve the hourly weather reports for most US locations from the National Weather Service.

Find your Report

1. Select State

Select your state from the list below. (Note that Alaska and Hawaii use incompatible weather report formats and are not listed.)

     

2. Get your Report!

Hit "See Report". This will open a new window with the hourly report for that state.

     

Get Your Weather

2. Enter City

In the report, find the nearest city to your area and copy its name, exactly, in the "City" field. Now hit "Get Weather".

     

3. Select Output Type

Select which type of output you'd prefer:

Plain

A simple name = value list of the weather report.

Delimited

A pipe-delimited ("|") list of the variable names of the weather report followed on the next line by a pipe-delimited list of the values. (The pipe chracter is used because comma's are valid characters in the return values.)

A WDDX XML message containing a structure of all the report data.



4. Get your weather!

Note that you can bookmark or copy the resulting URL to get that report at anytime. Understand that many stations don't give regular reports, although the larger cities almost always do.
